SKILLED
SERVICES
Nursing Services are
performed by a RN or LVN as directed by the plan of care,
such as physical assessment, wound care management, teaching
& training, medication administration and other procedures
necessary in returning patients to their optimal level of
health.
Registered Nurses
are responsible for making initial assessments, developing
a plan of care, providing skilled visits to the patient, supervising
ancillary employees and assessing the need for continued care.
Licensed Vocational Nurses
skillfully deliver services to the patient as per the physician's
treatment plan under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Home
Health Aides function to provide assistance with personal
care and activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, grooming,
toileting).
Medical Social Services are
necessary to resolve social, emotional and spiritual problems
which would interfere with the effective treatment of the
patient’s medical condition.
Rehabilitation Services are
provided by highly skilled and specially trained professionals
who assist the patient in regaining independence in accomplishing
everyday tasks which would otherwise be difficult to perform.
These services are provided by a team of experts such as Physical
Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists
Physical Therapists (PT) have
a restorative function. The most common kind of patient problems
requiring PT include CVAs (strokes), hip fractures, knee replacements,
and acute exacerbation of osteoarthritis and other post surgical
PT needs. One of the primary PT skills centers on teaching
the patient and their family the home exercise regimen.
Occupational Therapists (OT)
are professionals who assist patients to attain their maximum
level of physical and psychosocial independence. Areas of
expertise include fine motor skills, perceptual motor skills.
The kind of problems often seen in home care which require
OT include CVAs (strokes) and amputations.
Speech Therapists provide services which are necessary for
the diagnosis and treatment of speech language and swallowing
disorders.
Anodyne Therapy (MIRETM)
is used for peripheral neuropathy, (nerve damage resulting
from poor blood flow to nerves in the feet, legs, and hands)
as well as to promote healing of wounds. It emits infrared
light therapy to increase circulation and temporarily reduce
pain in the area it is applied. Generally 10-12 therapy
sessions are made and may include some or all of the following:
- Anodyne Therapy
to reduce pain and increase circulation.
- Stretching and
strengthening exercises.
- Balance and walking
exercises.
- Massage and other
therapeutic modalities for pain.
- Sensory integration
techniques that help it all work better together.
